Buddhist Center Graz

The Graz Diamond Way Buddhist Center has its origins in 1972 when Lama Ole Nydahl began his work as a Diamond Way Buddhist Lama in Graz. This was in accordance with the wishes of the 16th Karmapa. During this time, he gave his initial Buddhist teachings in Graz.

In 1998, Lopön Tsechu Rinpoche inaugurated a Wisdom Stupa (known as Gomang Chorten in Tibetan) at our recently renovated center. This stupa serves as a blessing for the extensive and growing Diamond Way Buddhist activity. Currently, our center is home to approximately 15 individuals who reside there consistently.

During his inaugural visit to Europe in 2000, the Graz center warmly received Thaye Dorje, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, which brought immense joy to the center. During his visit to Graz four years later, Karmapa had the honor of being the inaugural guest in the newly constructed retreat house, which was entirely built by the sangha. In 2009, during a Mahamudra course at the Graz Center with Lama Ole Nydahl, Karmapa bestowed a Guru Rinpoche initiation upon approximately 2,000 practitioners.

As a sangha, we regularly engage in Guru Yoga meditations on the 16th Karmapa. In our personal practice, our main focus is on the Mahamudra preliminaries. After completing the Ngöndro, we then shift our attention to the 8th Karmapa meditation.

We offer lectures and courses led by our esteemed root lama, Lama Ole Nydahl, as well as other respected Karma Kagyu Lamas such as Jigme Rinpoche and Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche. Additionally, our center provides a vibrant and fulfilling community experience, enriched by the presence of Diamond Way Buddhist teachers. You are welcome to join.
