Bruno Kreisky Park

The Bruno-Kreisky-Park is a park in Vienna’s 5th district, Margareten. It is next to the Margaretengurtel and the Rechte Wienzeile.

The park was initially constructed as Sankt-Johann-Park in the Hundsturm neighborhood when the line wall was dismantled at the end of the 19th century. It was named after the hospital at St. Johann a der Als that was founded by Frederick the Handsome, who originally controlled this territory, in 1908.

On the 15th anniversary of Bruno Kreisky’s death, on July 29, 2005, the park was renamed in honor of its proximity to the house where he was born.Kreisky grew up in the house at Schönbrunner Strasse 122, which is on the first block from the park to the city center.Christine Pillhofer’s bust of Kreisky was installed in the park in 2006.

The Hundsturmer chapel is located on St.-Johann-Gasse, on the outskirts of the 10,300 m2 city center.
