Brewery Augustiner Bräu

Since the early 17th century, beer has been made at Augustiner Bräu Kloster Mülln near Salzburg using traditional brewing processes and strict respect to purity standards. In other words, this is an opportunity to sip a tasty brew while learning about Austria’s history in the country’s largest beer garden.

Salzburg’s Augustiner Brauerei The Augustinian monks established Mülln in 1621. Beer is still produced according to a traditional recipe and, for the most part, by hand. Only the best raw materials are used in the brewhouse, with no preservatives and in accordance with the exacting conditions imposed by the so-called “Purity Laws.” Augustiner Bräu’s brewing technique includes exposed chilling of the beer wort in the last remaining traditional cooling vessel in Austria, as well as open fermentation.

The beer made by Augustiner Bräu has a distinct flavor and is well-known among beer enthusiasts worldwide. You may drink a good brew in very traditional circumstances in the comfortable setting of the Bräustüberl or beneath the large chestnut trees of the beer garden. Aside from the traditional “Märzen,” their “Fastenbier” (available from Ash Wednesday through Easter) and “Bockbier” (available in November and December) are both delicious. The total annual production here is roughly 13,000 hectoliters. The majority of it is poured directly from the wooden barrels into the steins of their visitors.
