Bohemian Prater

The Bohemian Prater is a tiny amusement park (approx. 5000 m2) on the outskirts of Vienna that is a popular family attraction, especially in conjunction with the neighbouring Laaer Berg leisure area.There are numerous rides at the Bohemian Prater that are over 100 years old.The second portion of the name is taken from the big Prater in Vienna.

The Bohemian Prater is located on the Laaer Berg, on the outskirts of the Laaer Wald, in Vienna’s 10th district of Favoriten.The rides and eateries are situated along a pedestrian walkway.Tivoli, the event facility, is located in the heart of the Bohemian Prater.

The amusement park was built in the latter half of the nineteenth century.The old industrial cafeteria of the Wiener Ziegelwerke was converted into the first excursion inn on the Laaer Berg at the time.Many showman families had already established in the Bohemian Prater by 1883.These, like the brick factory employees, were mostly from the Austrian crown territories of Bohemia and Moravia, thus the name of this new Viennese attraction.The amusement park expanded steadily in the years that followed.During World War II, on December 11, 1944, a bomb raid nearly entirely destroyed the Bohemian Prater.It was ultimately given its current look after rebuilding in the postwar years.

The Bohemian Prater, like the huge Prater, has a Ferris wheel.It was erected in 1988, but has just a 21-meter diameter, 14 gondolas, and is managed by the Reinhardt showman organization.This Ferris wheel is unique in that its hub is supported by a single framework.

Die Grünen Wien established a shuttle bus from Reumannplatz on May 1, 2010.This lasted until September 2010 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Local entrepreneurs established a shuttle bus service between Reumannplatz and Simmeringer Platz in 2011.
