On around 1000m2 of floor area, the Elisabethkirche in Salzburg holds Europe’s only exhibition of its sort, presenting the treasures of the Bible and numerous stories from the Good Book in such a way that visitors may experience them with all of their senses.
‘Bibelwelt’ is more of an adventure playground than a traditional museum, as evidenced by entering the hands-on display through a massive ear. The tales of Jesus and Paul are depicted inside the church. An audio guide is utilized to assist visitors through this unusual exhibit.
The ‘Bibelwelt’ in Salzburg includes:
- An oriental market
- A 40 m² map of the Mediterranean outlining the journeys of Paul the Apostle
- Dark passageways and unsteady floors reflect Jesus’ tale of woe
- A one-arm bandit: the ‘Mercy Slot-Machine’
The hands-on human experience is intended to entice ‘inquisitive folks’ of all ages to learn more, and to disclose the cultural richness of the bible to everyone!
