Bauernhausmuseum

The museum is entirely dedicated to the lives and labors of mountain farmers and peasants throughout history. On exhibit are a working flour mill from 1770, a weaving room, a cobbler’s and saddler’s workshop, large agricultural equipment, and Jochberg’s first sports cable car. The Hinteroberau Farmhouse Museum may be accessed on the sunny side of Kitzbühel, immediately below the Kitzbüheler Horn, by going along the Römerweg. The weathered classic Salzburg-Tyrolean Einhof, with structures like as a laundry, chapel, oven, bee hut, and threshing floor, is spread out among lush meadows and woods. There is a wide range of furniture, equipment, and tools on display, and it is definitely worth a visit!

The museum offers an audio guide (also in four foreign languages) that not only explains the house and the objects, but also provides additional background information that helps to understand the rural culture and history. The museum also has special exhibitions on different themes, such as sustainability, mowing, patchwork and Christian faith in peasant life.

The Bauernhausmuseum Hinterobernau is open daily from June 1 to October 14, from 13:00 to 17:00. The admission fee is 5 euros for adults and 3 euros for children. Visitors can enjoy a discount with the guest card “Red Card” from Kitzbühel Tourism.
