Badesee Going

Badesee Going is a natural swimming lake in the Wilder Kaiser region, near the village of Going in Tyrol. The lake is located at the edge of a forest, with a panoramic view of the Kaiser Mountains. The lake was voted the most beautiful natural lake in Tyrol by an international jury, and it offers a variety of activities and amenities for visitors. Badesee Going is a moor lake, which means that it is rich in organic matter and minerals. The water has a dark color, but it is very clean and has drinking water quality. The water temperature can reach up to 25°C in summer, making it one of the warmest lakes in Tyrol. The lake has a surface area of about 2 hectares, and a depth of about 4 meters. The lake is surrounded by a forest, a meadow, and a mountain range, creating a picturesque scenery.

The lake has a bathing facility that offers various amenities and services. There is a wooden jetty, a diving platform, a slide, and a raft for swimming and playing. There is a parking lot, a bike rack, and a bus stop nearby. The lake is open from May to September, from 10:00 to 19:00. The entrance fee is 6.50 euros for adults, and 3.50 euros for children.

The lake is also dog-friendly, as there is a separate area where dogs can swim and sunbathe. However, dog owners are asked to keep their dogs on a leash, and to respect the hygiene and safety of other guests.

According to a legend, Badesee Going was created by God as a reward for his favorite angel, who found this spot as a perfect place to rest. God turned the angel into a colorful bird named Gieri, and gave him the task of preserving the lake as a small paradise for humans. The lake was named after the bird, and the bird still watches over the lake today.

The lake has been used as a bathing place since the 19th century, when it was owned by the Counts of Lamberg. In 1928, the lake was bought by the municipality of Reith, and a bathing facility was built. In 1974, the lake was leased to the Waldbad Gieringer Weiher GmbH, which renovated the facility and added a bistro. The lake is now a popular destination for locals and tourists, who appreciate its natural beauty and tranquility.
