Baden Public Library

The Baden Public Library is a cultural institution in the spa town of Baden bei Wien, which has a history of over 80 years. The library was founded in 1940-1941, with a modest collection of 3,000 books and a loyal readership of 1,349 people, among whom were 300 spa guests. The library moved to its current location, the Zellerhof building, in 1959, and opened a branch in Weikersdorf in 1964. The library underwent several renovations and expansions, becoming an open-access library in the 1970s. The library now boasts a diverse and modern collection of over 31,000 media items, including books, magazines, e-media, and audio/video media. The library also offers various services and events, such as a digital library, a music library, a reading café, a study room, a seminar room, a gallery, readings, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, concerts, and film screenings. The library is part of the city’s rich cultural heritage, which was recognized by UNESCO in 2021 as one of the “Great Spa Towns of Europe”.
