Bacherpark

The Bacherpark is a 6,000-square-meter urban park in Vienna’s Margareten neighborhood.It gets its name from the location, Bacherplatz.The park and plaza are named after Leopold Bacher (1793-1869), a “bourgeois ornamental and pleasure gardener” who served as a poor councilor or district director in Margareten for four decades.

The park is utilized for pleasure, but more importantly, as a playground for children and young people from the local school. In 2013, a Salzburg firm constructed a tree home, various climbing tunnels, wobbly bridges, and a “knight’s castle” for children. The park also has ball sports facilities. The park supervisors are visitors at the Bacherpark from the end of April to the beginning of October.

Bacherpark has a designated dog area.The surface was constructed with lava granules and huge ornamental stones and was refurbished towards the end of 2013.

With the consent of the VP and FP, district head Kurt Wimmer (SP) intended to build a three-story “people’s garage” beneath Bacherplatz in February 2002.A citizens’ effort was created in 2004 to oppose this proposal, and it swiftly gathered 1,873 objection signatures.Nonetheless, the zoning plan revision was approved.As a result, multiple protest rallies were held.After the park was taken by activists who set up a tent camp in January 2006, the VP and FP distanced themselves from the garage project.Finally, a poll of locals found a 65.9% opposition to the proposal, which was later canceled by the district manager.

Between 2018 and 2023, the new Reinprechtsdorfer Straße subterranean station will be built nearby.
