The Anton-Benya-Park, located on Argentinierstrasse in Vienna’s 4th district of Wieden, is a park that was named by the Vienna Chamber of Labor in recognition of Anton Benya. It was inaugurated on June 1, 1990.The park is equipped with a basketball court and a soccer field. The green areas are suitable for picnicking. The park is not accessible during nighttime hours.
The park and palace of Nathaniel Meyer Freiherr von Rothschild (1836-1905) have been situated at this location since the 19th century. The Palais Nathaniel Rothschild served as a Gestapo prison during World War II.Following 1945, the property was procured by the Vienna Chamber of Labor and subsequently demolished. The Franz-Domes-Heim was replaced by a new structure in 1951/52, designed by Roland Rainer. The original building was demolished due to its dilapidated condition. The new structure was later transformed into the Adolf-Czettel training center of the Chamber of Labor, which was constructed between 1985-1989. The center includes the Theater Akzent and the Anton-Benya park, which opened in 1990.
