Altes Stadttheater Steyr

The Altes Stadttheater Steyr, previously known as Berggasse 10, is a magnificent historic baroque building located on Promenade 3. It was converted into a theater in 1796 and premiered Christian Gottlob Neefe’s opera Zigeuner on May 16, 1796.The construction of a larger theater in the industrial hall in 1958 (Neues Stadttheater, Volksstraße 5) prompted the closure.Since the fall of 1980, the house has been used again, following rehabilitation work that involved, among other things, the relocation of the promenade entrance. There are 233 seats in the gallery and 30 standing positions.
