Alfred Grünwald Park

The Alfred-Grünwald-Park is the second biggest park in Vienna’s 6th district of Mariahilf, with around 9,000 m2.

The Denzelgrund citizens’ initiative, launched in 1979 by Richard Weihs, pushed for the establishment of a public park on the unoccupied property at Linke Wienzeile 24-32.Vienna purchased the area in 1981 and turned it back to the public in 1982.The park was cared for by citizens until it was formally named after Alfred Grünwald in 1986; since then, the Vienna City Garden Office has been in charge.A 100 m2 water playground was installed in the park during the summer of 2008.The park is generally known as “Denzelpark” due to its position on the old site of the Viennese automobile manufacturer Denzel.
