Districts & Neighborhoods in Längenfeld
Längenfeld is made up of three districts: Oberlängenfeld, Unterlängenfeld and Huben. Each region has unique attractions and activities for locals and visitors, as well as its own character and past.
- Oberlängenfeld: The main district of Längenfeld, where the municipal seat and village center are located, is Oberlängenfeld. Originally from the 13th century, it is also the oldest element of the colony. With a Gothic nave and a Baroque tower, St. Catherine’s Church is Oberlängenfeld’s best-known attraction. One of the church’s most valuable altars, dating from the 15th century, displays events from the life of Saint Catherine. Also calling Oberlängenfeld home is the Längenfeld Nature Park House, an interactive museum showcasing the ecological and cultural diversity of the Ötztal valley. The museum has a panoramic terrace, a multimedia area and a state-of-the-art exhibition. In addition to a public swimming pool and tennis court, Oberlängenfeld has several shops, restaurants and motels.
- Unterlängenfeld: Unterlängenfeld is the area home to the Aqua Dome, a spa resort. Featuring indoor and outdoor swimming pools, saunas and spa facilities, all heated by the valley’s natural hot springs, the Aqua Dome is one of Längenfeld’s most popular attractions. Inspired by the shape of glaciers and mountains, the Aqua Dome also features futuristic architecture. Based on the findings of the famous ice mummy Ötzi, Unterlängenfeld is also home to Ötzi Village, an open-air museum that recreates the lives of the valley’s ancient inhabitants. In addition to a hearth and a sacrifice site, the museum houses a number of dwellings, utensils and animals. In addition to a golf course and an equestrian center, Unterlängenfeld has several cycling and hiking trails.
- Huben: About 4 km from the village center, this area of Längenfeld is the most southerly. Surrounded by meadows and woods, this quieter, more rural part of the hamlet is Built in 1697, Huben has a baroque interior and its own church. The patron saint of travelers and children, Saint Nicholas, is honored at the church. Huben also has the Längenfeld Zipline & High Ropes Park, an adventure park with log walks, unstable bridges, tightropes and zip lines, among other challenges and obstacles. Located on the banks of the Ötztaler Ache river, the park extends between rocks and forests. Huben also has a cross-country ski trail, a ski lift and a toboggan run.
