Baumbar is one of Kaprun’s hybrid hospitality venues: restaurant, bar, après-ski arena and club share the same address at Sigmund-Thun-Straße 4, beside the Maiskogelbahn valley-station area. Its own website describes seven different rooms and spaces, with Austrian restaurant cooking, wine, tank beer, a sun terrace, après-ski and late-night entertainment under one brand. The regional tourism organization similarly presents Baumbar as a place to eat, drink and dance, naming spare ribs, BBQ burgers, vegetarian dishes, live acts and DJs. For travellers, the important task is to separate these functions. Restaurant hours, arena hours and club nights are not identical, and the current official sources do not completely agree on the weekly schedule.
The most precise current regional schedule covers 26 June to 21 September 2026. Zell am See-Kaprun tourism lists Monday and Tuesday from 11:00 to 02:00, Wednesday with no hours shown, Thursday from 11:00 to 02:00, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 to 05:00, and Sunday from 11:00 to 02:00. That pattern implies Wednesday closure for the current period. Baumbar’s own website, however, says the restaurant opens daily from 11:30, the arena daily from 14:00 and the club on Friday and Saturday from 21:00.
Food service has another distinction. The regional tourism listing states kitchen hours from 11:30 to 21:00, even though the overall venue can stay open until 02:00 or 05:00. This is crucial for late-night visitors. Baumbar can remain a drinking and dancing venue long after the restaurant kitchen has finished. A traveller arriving at midnight should not expect a full dinner simply because the doors are open. The own restaurant page emphasizes homemade specialities, Austrian enjoyment and a wine cellar, while the regional page names spare ribs, BBQ burgers and vegetarian dishes.
The physical concept is deliberately varied. Baumbar’s own restaurant page lists capacities for a main restaurant, hayloft, alm-style room, Herzerl Alm and Stüberl, while separate pages describe the arena and club. In winter, the après-ski side becomes more prominent; in summer, the terrace and restaurant carry more of the experience. This means Baumbar can suit a family lunch, a group dinner, a drink after a mountain day or a late party, but not every part of the complex will feel the same at the same hour.
Location strongly supports the concept. The après-ski page places the open-air arena directly at the car park of the Maiskogelbahn valley station, making Baumbar an obvious stop after skiing or mountain activities. The restaurant sits in central Kaprun rather than at altitude, so there is no lift dependence just to reach dinner. Guests can walk from much of the village, use public transport to Kaprun or drive to the lift-area parking context. The late-night closing times make walking or a pre-arranged return especially sensible if alcohol is part of the evening.
Accessibility is better documented here than at many older resort venues. Zell am See-Kaprun includes Baumbar on its accessible-holidays gastronomy page, a page that describes listed establishments in the context of step-free access, spacious layouts and wheelchair-suitable sanitary facilities while noting that the list is still being updated. Tripadvisor also marks Baumbar wheelchair-accessible, but the regional tourism inclusion is the stronger signal. Travellers with specific requirements should still contact the venue, because seven rooms, terraces and club areas can differ in accessibility even when the overall business is considered accessible.
The venue also has a substantial beverage identity. Baumbar promotes an Austrian and international wine selection and describes itself as Kaprun’s first tank-beer business, with a large technical dispensing system. These details matter more to adult evening visitors than to lunch guests, but they help explain why the complex remains active after the kitchen closes. The restaurant is only one stage in a hospitality operation designed to move from daytime food to bar service, sports viewing, après-ski and clubbing.
Baumbar is therefore best planned by purpose. For food, use the 11:30–21:00 kitchen window rather than the late closing time. For an ordinary September visit, follow the regional 2026 daily pattern and confirm Wednesday because the own site contradicts the regional schedule. For clubbing, check Friday and Saturday programming separately, as events can change. If you only want the restaurant, there is no need to treat the entire complex as nightlife. The value of Baumbar is precisely that several types of Kaprun experience occupy one address, provided travellers distinguish their schedules instead of blending them together.
