Steakhaus Grossarl is a family-run steak restaurant on Unterbergstraße 74, immediately beside the Panoramabahn area in Großarl. The Prommegger family and its team have operated the venue since 2004, and both the restaurant’s own website and the regional tourism association position steaks and meat dishes at the center of the offer. This is a different proposition from the nearby hotel restaurants: Steakhaus Grossarl is a stand-alone destination for grilled meat, spare ribs, regional dishes, salads, children’s meals and desserts, with its own wine selection and a long-running local identity. The location is especially practical after skiing or hiking because the Panoramabahn valley station and associated bus stop sit only a short walk away.
The current hours require careful handling because official sources conflict. The Grossarltal tourism association publishes a precise autumn 2026 schedule of 11:30 to 22:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday through Sunday, with Wednesday omitted and therefore treated as the rest day. The restaurant’s own website also contains a prominent seasonal statement saying that from Pentecost 2026 it opens from 11:30 with Wednesday as the rest day and warm kitchen until 21:30. However, the footer on the same website simultaneously claims Monday to Sunday 11:30 to 02:00 with no rest day.
The food identity is clearer. Steakhaus Grossarl says freshness and origin are important, names regional suppliers as part of its philosophy and promotes steaks, spare ribs, wings, salads and regional Grossarltal dishes. Its current menu page also shows a broad range that goes beyond beef: chicken steak, salmon, game, baked potatoes, burritos, children’s dishes and desserts appear alongside beef cuts. This breadth matters for mixed groups. The restaurant is meat-led, but a traveller who does not want steak is not automatically limited to one token alternative, and the menu currently includes at least a vegetarian burrito and other non-steak options.
The restaurant’s history since 2004 gives it a different kind of significance from a heritage inn. It is not centuries old, but it has become a durable part of the resort’s modern hospitality landscape and celebrated twenty years of operation in 2024. That longevity matters in a seasonal Alpine destination where restaurant concepts can change quickly. The Prommegger family’s presence, current company imprint and active 2026 website all support the identity as a continuing business rather than a legacy listing.
Location is one of the strongest reasons to choose the restaurant. Outdooractive, using the local tourism association as a verified content partner, places Steakhaus Grossarl at 47.241247, 13.195696 and directly beside the Panoramabahn transport cluster. The nearby Grossarl cable-car parking is one of the valley’s major free parking areas, and the tourism association’s parking guide identifies it as a principal parking option. Public transport also converges around the lift station. That makes Steakhaus Grossarl easy to combine with a mountain day without sending diners across the village after returning from the slopes.
Accessibility information is less complete. The current restaurant and tourism pages do not publish a detailed step-free-access statement, accessible toilet specification or seating map. The valley-level location and major lift-station infrastructure remove the mountain-terrain problem faced by alpine huts, but they do not prove that every part of the restaurant is accessible. Visitors using wheelchairs or needing step-free entry should contact the restaurant before booking. The same applies to families who need a high chair or a particular table layout, even though the menu clearly contains children’s dishes.
For most travellers, the best strategy is to book around the kitchen rather than the latest claimed closing time. All current official material agrees that service begins at 11:30, and the restaurant’s own site consistently says the warm kitchen runs until 21:30. The uncertainty concerns Wednesday and how late the venue remains open after dinner. If you plan a normal lunch or dinner on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday through Sunday, the tourism association’s 11:30–22:00 schedule is a sensible verified basis. If you plan Wednesday or want to stay after 22:00, call first. That keeps the visit aligned with evidence instead of turning a website footer inconsistency into a promise.
