Districts & Neighborhoods in Ellmau

Ellmau is a small settlement situated 820 metres above sea level in the Austrian region of Sölllandl, in the district of Kufstein.The Wilder Kaiser mountains ring it and it is a part of the Ski Welt skiing area.With roughly 2,680 residents, Ellmau was first recorded in the archives in 1155.

Ellmau comprises the following neighbourhoods and districts:

• Kirchbichl: The parish church of Heilig Kreuz is situated in this, the oldest section of Ellmau. Old farmhouses and a cemetery are features of this peaceful, traditional neighborhood.The Gothic tower of the 14th-century church is complemented by a Baroque interior.
• Steinerner Tisch: Located in the center of Ellmau, this is a more contemporary and newer section with the tourist office, cable car station and main commercial strip. Named for a big stone table that was once used for gatherings and festivities. With so many hotels, restaurants, and stores, it’s a vibrant and busy neighborhood.
• Au: Numerous mountain biking and hiking trails begin in this picturesque and pastoral region on Ellmau’s southern slope. There is a broad perspective over the valley and the Wilder Kaiser from there. Popular alpine chalet Ellmauer Alm, which serves regional delicacies, is also located there.
• Wimm: Home of the Astberg chair lift, this little village is situated on the eastern side of Ellmau. There are a couple guest houses and farms in this quiet and comfortable neighborhood. It makes a terrific wintertime base for snowshoeing and skiing as well.
• Föhrenwald: Föhrenwald is a remote and wooded region on Ellmau’s northern slope, home of the Ellmauer Kaiserbad, a spa and recreational complex. A playground, sauna, and natural swimming lake are among the peaceful and restful features of this place. Wintertime cross-country skiing and sledding are also enjoyable activities there.
• Sonnseite: Home of the Hartkaiser gondola lift, this sunny and lofty spot sits on Ellmau’s western side. With so many ski runs, snow parks, and toboggan runs, it is an athletic and daring place. Ellmi’s Zauberwelt is a kid-friendly theme park with interactive displays and wood sculptures located there as well.
• Riesen: The Brandstadl gondola lift is situated near the border of Scheffau, in an isolated and wild region. There’s a large slalom course, a ski jump, steep and narrow ski runs in this demanding and thrilling place. Summertime hiking and climbing are excellent activities there as well.
