Geography Of Damüls-Mellau
Elevation of Damüls is 1,430 meters. Its area is 20.92 km². It borders with the Laternsertal, the Biosphere Reserve Großes Walsertal, the Bregenz Forest, and the neighboring Vorarlberg districts of Bludenz, Feldkirch, and Dornbirn. The most famous mountain peak in the region and a most sought-after hiking spot from Damüls is the 2,095 m Damülser Mittagsspitze.
Damüls-Mellau is a part of the Bregenzerwald area in western Austria’s state of Vorarlberg. The Allgäu Alps to the east, Lake Constance to the north, the Rhine Valley to the west, and the Arlberg to the south ring the Bregenzerwald area. Reknowned for its attractive and culturally rich terrain, the Bregenzerwald region is made up of mild slopes, plenty of woods, quaint towns, and unique wooden architecture.
Within the southern Bregenzerwald region, more precisely in the back Bregenzerwald and the Biosphere Park Grosses Walsertal, lies Damüls-Mellau. in an elevation of 700 m in the settlement of Mellau to 2,050 m at the mountain station of Ragazer Blanken, the ski area is spread over two valleys and four mountains. At 1,430 meters above sea level, Damüls is the hamlet in and surrounding the ski region; Mellau is at 688 meters. A cable car makes a handy connection between these two settlements. Through a system of ski lifts and ski buses, the ski region is easily connected to other ski resorts, such as Diedamskopf, Warth-Schröcken, and Faschina-Fontanella.
Feldkirch, Dornbirn and Bregenz are the nearest big cities to Damüls-Mellau. These cities are along the coasts of Lake Constance and in the Rhine Valley. Bregenz is nearly 50 kilometers distant, Feldkirch around 40 km, and Dornbirn about 42 miles. Damüls-Mellau is nearest to the airports of Friedrichshafen (80 km), Memmingen (100 km), Zurich (160 km), and Innsbruck (180 km). There are flights both domestically and internationally out of these airports. Bregenz is 50 miles distant, Bludenz is 30 km distant, and Dornbirn is 42 km far from Damüls-Mellau. National and regional links are offered by these rail stations. Damüls-Mellau is served by busses from Au, Schoppernau, and Bezau. These stations are spaced 10 km, 15 km, and 15 km, in that order. They provide choices for regional as well as local transit. Auto access to the ski region is available via the B200 and B193 routes as well as the A14 highway.
