Get In - By Train
Bad Ischl lies on the 1877 construction of the Salzkammergutbahn, which connects Attnang-Puchheim with Stainach-Irdning. The city centre, next to the spa, is home to the Bad Ischl rail station. In addition, there existed the 1893–1957 Salzkammergut Local Railway, which connected Salzburg with Bad Ischl. Proposed in 1889, the mountain train to the Hütteneckalm was never constructed.

Rail connections to Bad Ischl are excellent, and the journey provides breathtaking vistas of Austrian countryside. Bad Ischl lies on the Salzkammergutstraße B 145, which links Trautenfels, Styria, with Vöcklabruck. Salzburg is reached from Bad Ischl via Wolfgangsee Straße B 158. The most picturesque and practical approach to get to Bad Ischl is to drive there, where you may take in the views of the mountains and lakes en route. But you need to be mindful of the traffic, particularly on weekends and at busy times of year when the roads can become clogged. For driving on Austrian highways, you must also have a current vignette, or toll sticker.
Owing to its small size, the city is easy to see on foot. Parking is best done at the “Kaiservilla” parking lot, which is close to the park and the imperial villa, as there aren’t many spots in the center. A day ticket costs 12 euros, or 1.50 euros for each hour of parking.
