BLÜ Restaurant & Bar is the food-and-drink heart of Hotel BLÜ on Kaiser-Franz-Platz, directly in the pedestrian centre of Bad Hofgastein. The concept is intentionally broader than a conventional hotel restaurant: breakfast, flexible all-day dining, dinner, café culture, cocktails, jazz, DJ sets and a terrace on the town’s main square all overlap under one identity. Gastein Tourism currently lists the venue as open every day from 07:30 to midnight, while its service description separates the restaurant and bar functions: breakfast runs 07:30–10:30, the restaurant serves through the day, and the BLÜ Bar remains open until midnight. Hotel BLÜ’s own current FAQ is slightly more specific but also slightly different, describing BLÜ Daily from 12:00 to 22:00, dinner from 17:30 to 22:00 and the bar from 11:00 to midnight.
The culinary identity is deliberately cosmopolitan. Hotel BLÜ describes regional specialities mixed with influences from around the world, while Gastein Tourism says the kitchen team draws freely from different traditions rather than following one fixed regional template. Breakfast can include classics alongside changing dishes such as shakshuka, Vietnamese pho or eggs Benedict, and half-board guests can use a flexible à-la-carte model rather than a rigid single seating. This freedom is central to the property’s philosophy. BLÜ is not trying to be a traditional Gastein inn in the strict sense, nor does it abandon local ingredients. The appeal lies in combining Alpine produce and Austrian comfort with international flavours, vegetarian options and a more urban, contemporary way of eating.
The bar is equally important. Hotel BLÜ calls it the heart of the property and merges reception, lounge, café, vinotheque and cocktail bar into one social space. Current pages highlight espresso, Prosecco, local beer, Campari, gin, homemade lemonade and signature cocktails, while jazz concerts and DJ lines make the atmosphere more event-led on selected evenings. This means travellers can use BLÜ very differently depending on the hour. A morning visit can be about breakfast, midday can mean a flexible meal, late afternoon can become coffee or aperitivo, and the same address can continue into cocktails after dinner. The terrace on Kaiser-Franz-Platz extends that social role into the pedestrian square during suitable weather.
The location is exceptionally easy for travellers. Hotel BLÜ sits at Kaiser-Franz-Platz 1, around three minutes on foot from Alpentherme Gastein and in the middle of Bad Hofgastein’s car-light pedestrian zone. The operator asks drivers not to pull directly up to the main building; arrivals use a check-in point at Weißgerbergasse 3 and then the hotel’s parking area. Bus 558 connects Bad Hofgastein station directly with Kaiser-Franz-Platz, and the stop is immediately beside the hotel. Verified OpenStreetMap-derived mapping places the restaurant at approximately 47.17188, 13.10577. This central position makes BLÜ one of the easiest places in town to combine with spa time, shopping, concerts, the Kurpark or a walk through the historic centre.
Accessibility is comparatively strong but should still be stated carefully. OpenStreetMap-derived mapping marks the restaurant and hotel wheelchair accessible, and the property itself offers lift access within the hotel complex. That does not automatically describe every terrace table, toilet route or historic doorway, so travellers with specific mobility needs should confirm the precise path. Parking is nearby rather than directly at the pedestrian-front entrance, another detail worth discussing in advance when mobility is limited. The strongest reason to choose BLÜ is flexibility: few Bad Hofgastein venues cover breakfast, restaurant dining, café use, cocktails and music-driven evenings under one roof with seven-day service. Travellers simply need to remember that the overall 07:30–00:00 envelope contains several different food-and-bar service periods rather than one continuous full-menu restaurant.
For practical planning, the operator’s own current FAQ should guide dayparts inside that envelope. Breakfast is 07:30–10:30. BLÜ Daily is described as 12:00–22:00 and BLÜ Dinner as 17:30–22:00, while the bar, lounge and terrace run from 11:00 to midnight. Gastein Tourism currently describes the restaurant as open from 07:30 to 21:00 and warm food as continuous, which is not fully aligned with the hotel FAQ. Anyone planning dinner close to 22:00 should ask the team. For most visitors, the difference is immaterial: breakfast, midday food, dinner and late drinks all have broad, clearly current operating windows.
