Districts & Neighborhoods in Bad Hofgastein

In Bad Hofgastein there are five cadastral settlements. These are Wieden, Heißingfelding, Harbach, Bad Hofgastein proper, and Vorderschneeberg. Every one of these groupings includes a number of smaller towns, villages, and hamlets.

  • Bad Hofgastein proper: This is the town’s oldest and most important section. The spa, town hall, church, and main plaza are all situated there. With so many lodgings, dining options, retail establishments, and cultural attractions, it is also the primary destination for travelers. Among the fascinating sites in this region are Castle Weitmoserschlössl, the Kursaal theater, and the Alpentherme hot bath. A recently built cable car connects the town centre to the Schlossalm ski resort.
  • Next to the Gastein Ache river and south of Bad Hofgastein is the little rural community of Harbach. Among the several little towns there are Anger, Breitenberg, Luggau, and Remsach. Famous natural features of Harbach include the Angertal valley, the Gastein waterfall, and the Harbach moor. Forestry and farming are other well-known industries.Apart from that, Harbach features a spa hotel and a golf course.
  • Nestled on the eastern slope of the Gastein valley, north of Bad Hofgastein, is the village of Heißingfelding. There are guesthouses and farms together with both modern and historic structures. The valley and the Alps are seen from the serene and sunny Heißingfelding region.Near by are the Tauern tunnel road and the rail station in Bad Hofgastein.
  • West of Bad Hofgastein, on the Carinthian border, is the mountain village of Vorderschneeberg. Among the mountain fields and cottages there are the Schareckhütte, the Fundner Heimalm, and the Schlossalmhütte. Being near the Hohe Tauern National Park, the Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel ski resort, and the Gastein high path, Vorderschneeberg is a popular destination for hikers, cyclists, and skiers.
  • Wieden: Situated south of Bad Hofgastein on the western side of the Gastein valley, lies this settlement. Among the towns included in it are Hundsdorf, Gallwies, and Kötschachdorf. There are several farms, meadows, and woodlands in Wieden. Additionally lovely and peaceful, the region offers views of the Ankogel mountain range and the Gastein waterfall. Wieden has both a cross-country ski trail and a modest ski lift.
