How To Get In Achenkirch
Achenkirch is a village in Schwaz that lies on the northern bank of Lake Achensee. It is located about 40 km away from Innsbruck, which is the capital city of Tyrol and Munich, the capital city of Bavaria, is roughly 90 kilometers away from there. The nearest airport to Achenkirch is Innsbruck Airport (INN), which has non-stop flights to various European cities while Munich Airport (MUC) is 120 kilometers away. There are buses, trains and cars to Achenkirch.
A regular bus service connects Achenkirch with towns in Tyrol such as Innsbruck, Schwaz, Jenbach and Maurach. Buses from Munich take approximately two hours and will cost around €15. The central bus stop in Achenkirch can be found near the church or museum. Timetables for buses and prices can be accessed via the Tyrolean transport association (VVT) or German Railways.
It’s quite easy driving to Achenkirch with good road links and motorways too. Either from Innsbruck or Munich one may take the A12 motorway; it takes around 40 minutes by road via B181 passing along Achensee lakeside coming from Innsbruck and takes about 90 minutes when coming from Munich. Near lake, ski resort or village center there are car parks.
However, there isn’t a direct train that goes to Achenkirch; but you could catch another train to Jenbach which serves as a railway interchange between trains heading towards/coming out of Innsbruck, Munich, Salzburg or Vienna respectively. From Jenbach it’s only about half an hour by bus/taxi at a cost of approximately €10.
- Get In – By Plane: The closest airport to Achenkirch is Innsbruck Airport (INN), which is about 50 km away. It’s a small regional airport with access to some European cities like Vienna, Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam and Zurich. You can also fly into Munich Airport (MUC), which is roughly 120 km from Achenkirch; it is a big international airport linking numerous parts of the world such as Berlin, Paris, Rome, New York, Tokyo and Dubai. From either airport you may take buses, trains or rent cars to reach Achenkirch.
- Get In – By Bus: There are public bus connections between Achenkirch and other towns in Tyrol such as Innsbruck, Schwaz, Jenbach and Maurach. Alternatively there are buses departing Munich that make the journey in approximately two hours at a cost of about €15. The central bus station in Achenkirch is close to the church and the museum. - Get In – By Car: It is easy and convenient to drive to Achenkirch since it has good road connections including motorways. One can for example use the A12 motorway either from Munich or Innsbruck then get off at Wiesing followed by using B181 that leads through Achensee lake for about 40 minutes from Innsbruck or 90 minutes from Munich before getting there. An alternative route would be taking the A93 motorway towards Munich exiting at Oberaudorf then proceed along B307 across Germany-Austria border until you reach Achenkirch. It takes around 80 minutes driving time from Munich this way. Free or paid parking facilities can be found in Achenkirch near the lake, ski resort or village centre.
- Get In – By Train: Though there are no direct trains to Achenkirch, one can board a train to Jenbach 20 kilometers away. With destinations to and from Munich, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Vienna, Jenbach is a major railroad junction. The timetable as well as the fares can be checked at Austrian Railways (OBB) or Deutsche Bahn website. From here you can take a bus or taxi cab which takes about 30 minutes and cost around 10 Euros to Achenkirch.
