Cabana Pleta Serrera is a tiny unguarded mountain shelter above the Borda de Sorteny refuge, inside the Sorteny Valley Natural Park in Ordino parish. At roughly 2,190 metres, it sits beside a stream on the route toward Collada dels Meners and Pic de la Serrera. It is much smaller and less formal than the staffed Borda de Sorteny below: hikers should think of it as a two-person emergency or overnight shelter, not a bookable cabin or a destination with services.

The cabin is not listed among Andorra’s official Government and FAM refuges, but current mountain-route databases identify it as a small hut with two sleeping places, a fireplace, a table and bench. There are no confirmed mattresses, blankets, running water or staffed services. Nearby water is reported by secondary sources, but it should not be assumed potable or available in all seasons. Bring your own sleeping kit, food, warm clothing, headlamp and water treatment. Because capacity is only about two and there is no reservation system, do not plan a group overnight around it; treat it as a possible refuge, not guaranteed accommodation.

The usual approach starts from the Sorteny Natural Park parking area and follows the track to Refugi Borda de Sorteny, a staffed refuge at around 1,965 metres. From there, continue east on the high route, keeping beside the stone boundary wall before crossing a small wooden footbridge and climbing toward a low saddle and the cabin. The cabin lies a short distance off the principal route line, so look for the local path and map rather than expecting a large signposted destination. The HRP stage inventory places it about two kilometres after the Borda de Sorteny and roughly 225 metres higher, but does not provide a dedicated cabin-only route itinerary. Verify the track and allow time to return to the main trail.

Cabana Pleta Serrera is also a waypoint on the HRP and the wider GRP network. From the cabin, experienced walkers may continue toward Collada dels Meners and the Serrera ridge, or descend/continue on routes toward Ransol and other refuges. The nearby Pic de la Serrera reaches 2,913 metres, and the approaches cross high, open ground. These summit and pass routes require more time, navigation and stable weather than the short approach from the staffed refuge. A cabin on the map is not a substitute for carrying a route plan, and the two sleeping places may be occupied.

The setting is a quiet mountain clearing shaped by pasture, water and the upper valley’s rocky slopes. The cabin stands near a stream and is surrounded by open grassland and mountain terrain, with black-pine forest lower down. It is a simple structure, without exhibits, a warden or a commercial operation. The principal visitor interest is its role as a modest shelter and landmark on a high route, rather than architectural interpretation or indoor comfort. Give other hikers priority in the small space and leave the interior cleaner than you found it.

The cabin is within the protected natural park, where local rules apply. Secondary route sources note that bivouac camping is prohibited in the park. Do not pitch a tent next to the cabin unless current park rules expressly allow it, and do not assume that the shelter’s open door means sleeping in the surrounding meadow is permitted. Keep to paths, avoid damaging the streamside vegetation, take all rubbish away and use the fireplace only if it is safe and allowed. Do not take wood from live trees or assume a supply has been stored.

There are no daily opening hours. The cabin is unguarded and has no verified visitor schedule; practical access depends on the trail and park conditions. From the main parking area, visitors first reach the staffed Borda de Sorteny, which has its own booking and seasonal service calendar. Its meals, beds and hours do not extend to Cabana Pleta Serrera. If continuing upward, carry enough water and food for the full route and make any overnight arrangements directly with the staffed refuge as a backup.

The official refuge network is generally described as open throughout the year, but that is not a year-round safety guarantee. The upper Sorteny routes can hold snow and ice beyond winter, and high winds or cloud can obscure the small footpaths. Visit Andorra recommends hiking above 1,700 metres from late June to late September, with May or October only when conditions permit. In winter, a visit may require snowshoes, crampons or mountaineering equipment depending on current conditions. Check the forecast and park notices, use offline navigation and set a turnaround time before leaving the Borda.

Cabana Pleta Serrera is a useful stop for experienced hikers who value a very small shelter on the route into the Serrera high country. Its two-place scale, uncertain water and lack of official refuge management mean it demands self-sufficiency. For most visitors, the safer plan is to treat it as a waypoint and use a confirmed reservation at the staffed Borda de Sorteny for overnight lodging. Do not rely on the cabin for food, supplies or a guaranteed bed.
