Pic del Solà d’Erts is the high point on the ridge rising above Erts in La Massana parish. It offers a quieter, more local mountain walk than the popular high peaks of the Comapedrosa range, with views over Erts, the Arinsal valley and the surrounding forested slopes. Published elevations differ: peak listings give approximately 1,980–1,984 metres, while recorded GPS routes reach around 2,026 to 2,046 metres. Those numbers may reflect track placement or the exact point identified as the summit, so visitors should treat the height as approximate rather than assume a precise surveyed value.
The most clearly documented walking outing begins in Erts and forms a loop via the summit. One recorded route measures about 8.65 kilometres, with roughly 747 metres of ascent and descent and a total time close to three hours and twenty minutes. The same track notes about one hour and forty minutes from Erts to the summit. These are user-recorded figures, not official guaranteed timings; allow extra time for breaks, route-finding and weather. Another route from the wider La Massana area is longer and crosses Roc de la Cauba and Coll de les Cases, so it should not be mistaken for the Erts loop. Choose the GPX that starts and finishes where you intend to park.
From Erts, the path climbs steadily through forest and open slopes toward the Solà ridge. The lower sections are close to village and woodland paths, but the upper ascent is steep enough to demand sure footing and a reasonable level of fitness. As the trees thin, the route becomes more exposed and the summit area opens onto views across the parish. The trail is not a paved promenade; expect uneven ground, roots, stones and potentially muddy sections after rain. The path may be less obvious where it emerges from forest onto open hillside, so a current map or offline track is useful. Follow existing paths rather than creating shortcuts through vegetation.
Pic del Solà d’Erts sits among several named features that can be confused when selecting routes. Roc de la Cauba is a separate, lower viewpoint on the ridge network, and Coll de les Cases is a mountain pass rather than a summit. Some longer routes combine all three, while the shorter outing focuses on the Solà summit. Route pages may use slightly different names and elevations; compare coordinates and the route line, not just the title. The summit is not a staffed attraction and has no visitor centre, ticketing, café or toilets. There is no dependable water point on the route, so carry enough water for the full climb and return.
The outlook from the top is especially rewarding after the enclosed forest approach. Erts lies below, with the valley road and surrounding settlements visible through the mountain folds. On clear days the panorama extends to higher Pyrenean peaks. The summit itself is relatively modest in altitude compared with the 2,700–2,900 metre objectives elsewhere in Andorra, but its steep ascent from the village makes it a substantial outing. In hot weather, the first part of the day can be warm while the ridge remains windy; carry a light insulating layer and sun protection. In winter and shoulder seasons, snow and ice can make the forest path and steeper upper slopes significantly more difficult.
Check the forecast before leaving and avoid the summit ridge if thunderstorms, strong winds or poor visibility are expected. The path’s closeness to Erts should not create a false sense of safety: a wrong turn in forest or a late descent can still lengthen the outing. Start early enough to return before dark, carry a charged phone but do not rely on mobile reception, and download a map in advance. Sturdy footwear with grip is recommended. Trekking poles can help on the steep descent, particularly when the ground is wet. If conditions deteriorate, retrace the known ascent rather than attempting an unfamiliar shortcut to a nearby road.
There are no fixed opening hours for the mountain. Access depends on weather, daylight, trail conditions and any temporary local restrictions. Visitors should respect the village and private property at the trailhead, park without blocking access and keep noise low. Livestock may graze in open sections, so give animals space and control dogs. Carry out rubbish and leave the forest and hillside as found. Pic del Solà d’Erts is best for hikers who want a moderately strenuous local summit with a clear start from Erts and who are comfortable following a steep trail. It can be a satisfying half-day walk, but the published distance and elevation gain should be used only for the specific circuit described; longer combinations toward Roc de la Cauba or Coll de les Cases require additional time and navigation.
Bring enough daylight margin for a careful descent.
Before choosing the Erts loop, verify the exact start point and return line on the downloaded track. The route figure describes one recorded circuit, while other online tracks extend toward neighbouring ridges and passes. Do not assume a trailhead has dedicated parking; use lawful village parking and leave private driveways and access roads clear.
