Mirador del Roc de Senders is a forest-edge viewpoint on the shaded Obaga slope above Els Serradells in Andorra la Vella. From this side of the valley, the view opens over the capital, Santa Coloma and the surrounding mountain slopes. The lookout is part of the municipal Miradors de l’Obaga network, which links several viewpoints through woodland paths and forest tracks. It is also the endpoint of a short, equipped K1 via ferrata. Visitors can therefore choose between a walking approach and a protected climbing route, but these are different experiences and require different preparation.

For a straightforward visit, the viewpoint can be reached on foot from the Rec de l’Obac or from the Els Serradells sports centre. The official Miradors de l’Obaga route starts near the Camí de la Costa, with an alternative start from the Prat Primer parking area. From the Els Serradells parking area, local route guidance places the first viewpoint a little over twenty minutes away. That short access should not be confused with the entire circuit: the full loop links the Roc de Senders, Bosc Negre, Roc de Palomera and Roc de Solobre viewpoints, covers about 8.425 kilometres, gains and loses roughly 598 metres and is rated very difficult by Visit Andorra. Decide in advance whether to visit only the first lookout or complete the full circuit.

The short walk to Roc de Senders follows local hillside paths through the shaded forest above the city. The Obaga side is cooler than the sunny Solà slope, making it a useful summer outing, though shade does not eliminate heat or weather exposure. The route network is marked, but junctions branch toward the other viewpoints and forest tracks. Download a current map or route track before starting. If you are visiting just the viewpoint, turn back on the same path unless you have specifically planned a continuation. The municipal circuit is a morning-length walk for a reasonably fit hiker, not a quick extension of the lookout visit.

At the viewpoint, the city appears from above, with Santa Coloma and the valley’s built-up corridor set against the mountain slopes. The shaded forest contrasts with the more open, sun-facing side across the valley. The viewpoint is a simple outdoor stop rather than a staffed attraction: there is no ticket, café, visitor centre or fixed duration. A brief pause is enough for the view, but the setting also makes it a good point to orient yourself before deciding whether to continue to the next lookout. Take care near exposed edges and stay within the built or marked viewing area; the rock is not a place for unprotected scrambling.

The via ferrata offers a separate way to reach the lookout. It is graded K1, the introductory level, but it remains a protected climbing route rather than a hiking trail. Participants need an appropriate helmet, harness and via ferrata lanyard, and should understand how to use the equipment. Beginners should go with a qualified guide or someone experienced; do not attempt it in ordinary walking shoes without protection. Wet rock, ice, storms and high wind can make even an easy-grade ferrata unsafe. The municipal route information and current local conditions should be checked before use. The hiking path remains the appropriate choice for visitors who do not have ferrata equipment or experience.

The wider circuit continues from Roc de Senders toward the Bosc Negre viewpoint, then through the Palomera forest toward Roc de Palomera, the route’s highest point at about 1,660 metres, before linking onward to Roc de Solobre. The complete walk includes forest sections, mountain paths and several ascents and descents. Visit Andorra describes the full route as very difficult despite its moderate distance, so hikers should not assume it is an easy family loop. A route can also be reversed, but the elevation profile changes and the climb becomes steeper in the opposite direction. Choose the variant according to fitness, weather and daylight.

Wear sturdy shoes with grip and carry water, food and a light layer. The shaded terrain can be damp, and roots or stones may be slippery after rain. In winter, snow or ice can obscure the route and make the via ferrata inappropriate. Check the mountain forecast, particularly if planning the full loop or ferrata. Keep dogs under control around wildlife and other walkers, and leave no rubbish. The paths pass through a natural hillside close to town, so respect trail signs and avoid damaging vegetation by taking shortcuts.

Roc de Senders is a practical way to add a genuine woodland walk to a visit in Andorra la Vella without leaving the parish. The short approach suits people who want a defined viewpoint and a relatively compact outing; the larger circuit offers a more strenuous half-day hike; and the ferrata is for properly equipped participants seeking a vertical route. These options share a destination but should not be described as one interchangeable trail. There are no fixed opening hours for the viewpoint. Access depends on weather, daylight, trail maintenance and any temporary closures. Check municipal notices before starting, and turn around if conditions make the shaded path or exposed viewpoint unsafe.
