Attractions & Things To See In Chau Doc

It will be worthwhile to take a stroll along the river. You’ll run into a lot of young folks who are eager (if a little shy) to talk to you. After a morning spent bartering in the vibrant marketplaces, it may be extremely satisfying. After being driven from Central and South Vietnam by the Viet in several centuries of conflict, some Muslim Cham arrived in the Chau Doc area in the 18th century (other Cham clans settled in Cambodia -Kompong Cham means “Cham Landing”- Malaysia, and the Chinese island of Hai Nan). As a result, mosques can be found there, such as the Jamiul Azhar mosque and the Ehsan mosque on the island of Con Tien. Mount Sam, a sacred hill (230 m – the only hill in the area) is located 7 km to the southwest of Chau Doc. It is packed of temples and pagodas both at the foot of the hill and on it, and the journey to the top takes about an hour.

Chau Doc floating village

Visiting the floating town by boat is the nicest thing to do in Chau Doc. An approximately two-hour boat tour includes stops at a few additional local sights in addition to the Chau Doc floating hamlet. The village’s homes are partially constructed using floating barrels and stilts. Fish are frequently caught with nets placed beneath the home and then prepared on boats that travel through the hamlet so they can be sold to the neighbor directly. Without a sure, it is a special sight that is only present in this part of Vietnam.

Cham village

You will also visit a Cham village on the same boat excursion, where the majority of the residents have converted to Islam. The temple complex at My Son and other Cham towers dispersed around central Vietnam were built during the time when the Cham minority in Vietnam had its own kingdom. A mosque and a Koran school are both located in the area, and the locals are renowned for the excellence of their weaving.

Tra Su

A lot of birds go to the semi-submerged forest known as Tra Su. Beautiful photographs can be taken during the boat journey through the serene mangrove forest and the vibrant green duckweed. Rare birds that live in the marsh region can be seen along the journey because it is remote and has lots of food for them to find. The park is directly traversed by Vietnam’s longest bamboo walkway, which is also located here. About 25 kilometers separate Chau Doc and Tra Su.

Sam Mountain

Sam Mountain is the main attraction, at least for domestic tourists. Sam Mountain, which is more of a hill than a mountain at 230 meters, is a holy site for many Vietnamese. On the peak, there are numerous pagodas and temples. You enjoy a fantastic view of the unending flat rice fields from the mountain’s summit.

Ta Pa rice fields

The Mekong Delta’s Ta Pa rice fields have the most picturesque rice fields. This picture is stunning and recognizable because to the palm trees that are situated in between the fields. They are around 40 kilometers from the city, and they go well with Sam Mountain and Tra Su, which are discovered en route.

Long Xuyen floating market

The town of Long Xuyen, which is around 60 kilometers from Chau Doc, serves as the capital of the An Giang Province. It is better to arrive in this city the day before if you want to visit the Long Xuyen floating market, which opens up early every morning.

Tuc Dup Hill

Tuc Dup Hill is a worthwhile destination for anyone with a passion for the Vietnam War. It is also known as the 2 Million Dollar Hill since it is claimed that the Americans utilized $2 million worth of bombs and bullets to attack this hill. This was due to the Viet Cong’s intense fighting throughout the four-month-long American invasion. There isn’t much to see right now, although a cemetery and memorial are close by this hill.

Ba Chua Xu Temple

The main attraction in Chau Doc is the Ba Chua Xu Temple, which is situated at the base of Sam Mountain. The temple was built in Vinh Te Hamlet, Chau Doc Town, during the start of the 19th century. The temple was originally constructed of bamboo. It had double tiles installed on the roof in 1962. Then it was rebuilt in 1972. (except the 10 meter-long stone wall at the back, which was the old platform of the tower). In 1976, the monument was finished. The fourth lunar month’s Ba Chua Xu Temple Festival takes place from June 23 to June 27. Numerous thousands of pilgrims visit the celebration to burn joss sticks, offer flowers, watch the statue be washed, and pray for good health and fortune.

Tay An pagoda

Chau Doc’s Tay An Pagoda is a historic pagoda with a blend of Vietnamese and Asian architectural elements. Tay An pagoda is a particularly lovely sight, lying on one side of Sam Mountain, emerging from the shadows like a monk in a yellow robe, moving toward the town in a calm and serene atmosphere. The pagoda was built in 1847 and has undergone numerous renovations and repairs. It received a comprehensive renovation in 1958, growing to a total area of 1,250 m2 with around 200 statues. More than 100 statues, each signifying the strength of Buddhism, can be found at the main temple; the Buddha sitting on the Lotus Tower is the most prominent statue. It may be claimed that the Tay An pagoda’s seriousness and holiness have taken on an invisible force that draws a lot of monks and travelers. But what tourists will never forget about the pagoda is its solemn, historic design and serene setting.

Thoai Ngoc Hau tomb

At the base of Sam Mountain, 5 kilometers south-west of Chau Doc, Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb is situated in front of Ba Chua Xu Temple, the largest monument. The revered individual, whose original name was Nguyen Van Thoai (1761–1829), was the first man from this region to cultivate the uncultivated land, build towns, and carve Thoai Ha and Vinh Te canals. A temple in his honor was built in the 1930s, and he was interred there beside his two wives. The Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb is a magnificent example of prehistoric architecture.

Phuoc Dien Pagoda – Hang Pagoda

Climbing the more than 400 stairs to Phuoc Dien Pagoda, also known as Hang Pagoda (Cave Pagoda) atop Sam Mountain, is one of the highlights of the visit to Chau Doc and An Giang. The sculptures of A Di Da (the Buddha of the Past) and Thich Ca Buddha (Sakyamuni, the Historical Buddha), as well as a number of other gods, including a 1000-armed and 1000-eyed Quan Am, can be found in the main shrine. A statue of Zen Buddhism’s founder Bodhidharma and a room filled with Buddhas in mirrors are also there. The Hang Pagoda is a collection of monuments of exquisite architecture that symbolizes the infusion of the country’s traditional cultural identity. Because the Hang Pagoda connection is a natural cave with numerous traditions handed orally over many centuries, many tourists are amazed and curious by the beauty of the ancientness, seriousness, and majesty it carries.

Tinh Bien Market

The majority of the commodities in this country are imported, primarily from Thailand, and the costs are generally lower than those of many other parts of the nation. The number of tourists increases significantly on Saturdays and Sundays, with the majority coming from the Eastern provinces, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Mekong Delta provinces in the wake of spiritual, mountainous, and border tourism. To go to Nha Bang Town from Chau Doc Town, it takes about 30 minutes. To get to the Tinh Bien border gate market, continue traveling for around 10 kilometers in the direction of Xuan To Town.

Cam Mountain – Forbidden Mountain

Cam Mountain is located at An Hao ward, Tinh Bien District, An Giang Province, and is 705m above sea level with a panoramic view at the top. With its breathtaking alpine landscape, Cam Mountain is regarded as the Mekong Delta’s Dalat (a well-known highland resort). The most spectacular representation of the Cam Mountain region is the Great White Sitting Buddha statue. Numerous vacationers are drawn to the mountain because of its consistently cool weather, unique natural attractions, and heartwarming tales. A source of pride for locals in An Giang, the Cam Mountain cable car has emerged as a new tourism marvel. Cam Mount draws thousands of visitors each year and is one of Chau Doc’s most expensive tourist spots. Cam Mount has developed into one of the most popular and congested tourist destinations in the area as more money is being directed toward the cable car.

Chau Doc Floating Market

The genuine Chau Doc floating market and little canals are two of the top things to see and do in Chau Doc town. The Mekong Delta’s traditional and cultural river life is all that is discussed occasionally. The floating market in the middle of the Chau Doc River can only be reached by boat (Bassac river). No need to be concerned; it is located fairly close to your accommodation. You arrive at Chau Doc Riverside Park first, where there is a basa fish sculpture. There are small sampans and large boats for a large group that you can board from there to continue your journey by sea. You can go to the floating market from that boat station in in around 15 minutes by taking a short boat ride. The best advice is to get a boat at least a day in advance because it will be too dark and hurried to have one at 5 a.m. the following morning. Since we are local experts, we are aware that the Chau Doc floating market will close at 7 a.m. It is a very small and local market with about 20 boats and sampans.
