To guarantee accessibility for all citizens, regardless of their financial situation, the law mandates that education up to the secondary level be provided by the government at no cost.

The nation boasts three main forms of educational systems: Andorran, French, and Spanish. These systems use different main languages of instruction, addressing the linguistic and cultural diversity of the nation. Whereas the French system uses French and the Spanish system uses Spanish, the Andorran educational system mostly teaches Catalan, the official language of the nation. In Andorra, parents can choose the educational path for their children depending on their tastes or cultural background.

Andorran authorities build and maintain all educational institutions in Andorra, independent of language and curriculum. Regarding staffing, there is an interesting difference: the teachers in the French and Spanish schools are mostly sponsored by France and Spain, respectively, highlighting the cross-border ties between Andorra and its surrounding countries.

While 33% attend French schools and 28% are registered in Spanish schools, approximately 39% of Andorran children are registered in Andorran institutions. This distribution highlights the global character of the nation and shows clear traces of France and Spain, as well as the need to give its students choices.
