Vlore Travel Guide

Vlore, founded in the 6th century B.C.E. and known as Aulona in history, was established in one of the most picturesque locations in southern Albania. Its coasts include a unique combination of rocky and sandy beaches, and the Karaburun Peninsula and Sazan Islands are seen in front of the city. Vlore is the beginning point of the Albanian Riviera, and both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas lap its coasts. Due to its closeness to the Orikum and Amantia archaeological sites as well as the Llogara National Park, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Albania. Beyond its idyllic beaches and natural beauties, the city is historically significant for Albania, as it was the site of the country’s First National Assembly, which proclaimed independence from the Ottoman Empire on November 28, 1912.
