Rruga Murat Toptani is a lovely pedestrianized street in the heart of Tirana that connects the National Art Gallery with the Parliament Building. Reja (the Cloud), a contemporary art piece, the National Gallery of Arts, and the Justinian Fortress Wall are all located on this street.
This renowned thoroughfare takes its name from the Toptani ruling family, who ruled Ottoman Albania from the 1700s through World War II. In the summer, when the double rows of plane trees provide sun protection. Along the way, you may observe some of the city’s historic defenses, which date all the way back to the period when the Toptanis fought it out for control of Tirana with other prominent local families.
