- Posted 2 years ago
The Porto Palermo Tunnel is a Cold War submarine bunker created by communist leader Enver Hoxha during his dictatorship. Porto Palermo Bay was an important strategic submarine station at the time, and it was utilized as a maintenance shelter. The tunnel is around 12 meters long and 650 meters deep into the rocks.
Although the bunker is no longer in operation, it is still a military restricted zone, and visitors are not permitted to enter. The bunker sits on the northern side of Porto Palermo Bay, and may best be seen from the viewpoint immediately on the beach road.
