- Posted 2 years ago
The National Museum of Independence, Albania’s first museum, was established in 1936 in the building where the first Albanian government was established in 1913. The museum originally displayed a variety of notable artefacts from Vlore and the surrounding regions when it first opened. The museum was designated as a national museum 50 years later, displaying actual Renaissance papers as well as numerous artworks from the time period.
The museum, which was built as a symbol of Albania’s independence, consists of two rooms and two halls, all of which are beautifully decorated in the 19th century style and contain original furniture, authentic documents, works of art, relics, the proclamation of independence, which was signed in this building, and other valuable national items. The Provisional Government Conference Room and the office of the first Albanian Prime Minister (Ismail Quemali) are two of the museum’s most notable features. The museum, which is located in the south of Vlore near the harbor, is open every day except Monday.
