Vlore’s Historical Museum is housed in a former structure that housed local government agencies and public organizations. The museum was founded in 1962.
Hundreds of authentic artefacts from different historical eras, from ancient times to the current day, are shown and conserved here. Visitors may discover archaeological sites from ancient towns in the Vlore area, including Orikum, Amantias, Ploce, Olympia, and Canina, at this museum. Historical objects from the Middle Ages may also be found throughout the hallways. Original Vlora municipal records, weaponry, and personal belongings of prominent historical personalities are among them.
The Historical Museum features a unique section dedicated to the role played by the people of Vlore in the war for independence. The tale of the region’s conflict in 1920 and the democratic movement in June 1924 are told in two different pavilions.
The museum’s structure stands where the casket containing the corpse of the country’s patriot Avni Rustem was discovered. The grave was discovered by chance during the restoration of the Vlore-Skele boulevard in the mid-1980s. The corpse was eventually reburied nearby, and the original hermetically sealed lead and glass casket was relocated to the Historical Museum.
