The Ethnographic Museum in Elbasan is a house from the 18th century that maintains the city’s culture, folklore, and way of life. It is located in the heart of the city, not far from the Elbasan Castle.
The museum is housed in a historic townhouse. The structure is 200 years old and exhibits one of Albania’s characteristic post-medieval residences. The enormous balcony, which is paved and encircled by wood, distinguishes the two-story structure. This structure is referred to as a porch in Albanian folklore.
The museum reflects in detail the culture and folklore of Central Albania, the handicrafts of the time and the daily life of the inhabitants of the city and its surroundings. For a foreign or Albanian visitor, the works of blacksmiths, blacksmiths, tailors, opings, Saracens, bells, gunsmiths, jewelers, çibukxhinj, samarxhinj are useful to understand the influences and cultural currents of the area.
