The Fortress of Justinian, often known as Tirana Castle, is a cultural heritage monument of Albania located in Tirana. The stronghold was formerly where the major east–west and north–south highways intersected, establishing the core of the town as it was at the time. The castle has a history that predates 1300. The walls are 6 m high and date back to the Byzantine period. It is close to Parliament and the Academy of Sciences, as well as Skanderbeg Square. The freshly revealed wall foundations have been integrated into Murat Toptani Street, which has been pedestrianized.
Since December 2018, the castle has been open for visitors.
Tourists may also appreciate the historic Ottoman edifice, which is notable for its architectural significance. Recently unearthed parts of castle foundations and the ruins of multiple fortress walls are progressively incorporated into the design of the Albanian capital’s current streets. The castle mosaic, which was revealed outside Albania’s Parliament on the 100th anniversary of the country’s independence, is still a tourist attraction.
The castle’s “Old Bazaar” is Tirana’s newest treasure, a wonderful location where contemporary and tradition coexist. This region not only serves as a culinary setting for traditional cooking, but it also acts as a cultural and artistic area.
There are souvenir stores with an emphasis on Tirana’s history, mosaics, traditional eateries, and so on in this cultural and commercial center. To make it more accessible, a new route in the pedestrian service will be developed, connecting it to the “Unaza” and the “Elbasan Street.”
