Arena Kombtare, renamed the Air Albania Stadium for sponsorship purposes, is an all-seater, multi-purpose football stadium in Tirana, Albania. It was erected on the site of the previous Qemal Stafa Stadium. The stadium seats 22,500 people, making it Albania’s biggest stadium.
The Albanian Football Association (FSHF) and the Albanian State jointly own the stadium via Shoqria Sportive Kuq e Zi Sh.A, a subsidiary created for the purpose of constructing, operating, and maintaining the edifice.
The stadium’s structure, designed by Marco Casamonti of Archea Associati, is an unusual multi-faceted rectangle (an 8-faceted rectangle) that gives access to unique purposes on each side. A 112-metre-tall tower is located on one of the stadium’s corners (24 floors). Each aspect supports distinct streams, allowing users in private areas such as hotel towers, commercial areas, and stadium fans to be identified.
The stadium is situated in the capital city of Tirana’s city center. Precisely on Italia Square, which is next to one of the city’s two major squares, Mother Teresa Square, which is named for Albanian-born Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Both squares are situated near the southern terminus of the Dshmort e Kombit Boulevard, which is bounded on that side by the University of Tirana and the city’s Grand Park. The whole region, including the former Qemal Stafa Stadium, was designed and developed by architects and urban planners Gherardo Bosio, Armando Brasini, and Florestano Di Fausto during the Kingdom of Albania’s rule and subsequently under the Italian occupation. Other public buildings surround the stadium, including the University of Tirana, the Congress Palace, the Archaeological Museum, the University of Arts, and the Presidential Palace.
The stadium will host the first Europa Conference League final in May 2022.
