You\u2019ll run into a lot of young folks who are eager (if a little shy) to talk to you. After a morning spent bartering in the vibrant marketplaces, it may be extremely satisfying. After being driven from Central and South Vietnam by the Viet in several centuries of conflict, some Muslim Cham arrived in the Chau Doc area in the 18th century (other Cham clans settled in Cambodia -Kompong Cham means \u201cCham Landing\u201d- Malaysia, and the Chinese island of Hai Nan). As a result, mosques can be found there, such as the Jamiul Azhar mosque and the Ehsan mosque on the island of Con Tien. Mount Sam, a sacred hill (230 m \u2013 the only hill in the area) is located 7 km to the southwest of Chau Doc. The revered individual, whose original name was Nguyen Van Thoai (1761\u20131829), was the first man from this region to cultivate the uncultivated land, build towns, and carve Thoai Ha and Vinh Te canals.
