As is customary, precautions should be taken. The local crime scene does not often target foreigners, however pickpocketings do occur.

Although bottled water is preferred, tap water is typically safe to use. Albanian cuisine is typically healthy no matter where you go, but in the summer, make sure the meal has been properly refrigerated since it becomes incredibly hot. You may walk about the city to stay healthy, as many people do in the capital, especially around the Artificial Lake, but bear in mind that the city is very polluted. Insect repellent should be carried in the summer since mosquitoes are quite active, particularly near historic wetlands and along the Western plain (as of 2012).

Beachgoers should be cautious since the seabed may include pieces of glass and sea urchins. Also, during the hours of 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., pharmacies and other stores are closed, so bring any necessary prescriptions with you. Small town or village health services are occasionally understaffed, forcing trips to bigger cities. In addition, many Albanians are smokers. It’s a frequent event that you may expect to happen at any time. The government has made it illegal to smoke in restaurants, although it is not severely enforced.
