Weather & Climate in Vietnam

AsiaVietnamWeather & Climate in Vietnam

Because of the different latitudes and the great variety of topographical relief, the climate varies greatly from place to place. During winter time or dry season, between November and April, the Monsoon winds commonly blow from the north-east alongside the Chinese coast and over the Gulf of Tonkin, absorbing substantial humidity. Consequently, in most parts of the country the winter season is dry only in comparison to the rainy or summer season.

Annual average temperatures tend to be higher in the plains compared to the mountains and to be higher in the south compared to the north. In the southern plains around Ho Chi Minh City and in the Mekong Delta, temperatures fluctuate less and range between 21 and 28°C (69.8 and 82.4°F) throughout the year.Seasonal fluctuations are much more dramatic in the mountains and plateaus and in the north, where temperatures range from 5° C (41.0° F) in December and January and up to 37° C (98.6° F) in July and August.
