Sandanski is situated in southwest Bulgaria, about 157 kilometers from Sofia and 63 kilometers from Blagoevgrad district. The town has a population of around 26,000 people. Sandanski is a vital crossroads city. The main route E79 passes close; around 20 kilometers from the village is the Greek border.<\/p>

Sandanski is dubbed the hottest city in Bulgaria. It is situated at an elevation of 240 meters and is heavily impacted by the Mediterranean climate. The average annual temperature is +14.7 degrees, with moderate and warm winters. The microclimate is ideal for treating lung diseases.<\/p>

According to mythology, here is where the Thracian Spartacus was born, who launched the biggest slave insurrection against the Roman empire. The town was one of the early Christian Episcopal centers in these territories in the sixth century. The settlement was destroyed by Barbarian tribes towards the end of the sixth century. Sveti Vrach was the town\u2019s name until 1947, when it was renamed in honor of the renowned Bulgarian rebel Yane Sandanski (1872-1915).<\/p>

Sandanski grew up on the remains of an Early Byzantine town. Sandanski has the ruins of four Episcopal basilicas. The major Episcopal basilica dates from the fifth to sixth centuries AD and is known for its distinctive mosaics. The town\u2019s archaeological museum was established on the foundations of Bishop Yoan\u2019s basilica.<\/p>

The town park is a popular gathering spot for inhabitants and tourists of Sandanski. It covers an area of 344 dca and is home to over 200 Mediterranean plant species.<\/p>

Another famous site is Melnik, which is located near Sandanski. Bansko, Razlog, and Petrich are all located close to Sandanski. Near Petrich is the Rupite region, which was home to the Bulgarian prophet Vanga during her latter years. Sandanski is located on the continental mediterranean climate\u2019s northern equator. Summers are very hot and dry, with rare thunderstorms, and temperatures during heat waves may surpass 40 \u00b0C, reaching 45 \u00b0C, the city\u2019s highest recorded temperature. Winters are wet and moderate, lasting around three months from December through February. Springs and autumns last around two months each. Summer in Sandanski is the longest season, lasting four months \u2013 from early June to late September. Sandanski is situated in the Sandanski\u2013Petrich Valley, bounded on three sides by the Pirin, Belasitsa, and Ograzhden mountain ranges. The town is located around 160 kilometers south of Bulgaria\u2019s capital Sofia on the main European Route E79. Thessaloniki, Greece\u2019s second biggest city, follows the same path at about the same distance.<\/p>

Sandanski evolved in an amphitheatrical form along the lower levels of the Sandanska Bistritsa River on the outer south-west sides of the Pirin Mountains. Sandanski Is Bulgaria\u2019s most renowned spa. It is situated 160 kilometers from Sofia at an elevation of 240\u2013300 meters on the outer southwestern slopes of the Pirin Mountain, in the valley of the river Bistrica Sandanski. It is just 20 kilometers from the Greek border.<\/p>

The therapeutic benefits of essential oils have been recognized since prehistoric times. That is why the Romans established a city here named Dedusava; mineral springs were also used and constructed, and the temple was dedicated to the deity of healing Asclepius. Today, remnants of this era\u2019s traces may still be found.<\/p>

The mineral springs in Sandanski are hyperthermal springs. The water temperature ranges from 42 and 81 degrees Celsius. Water is composed of sodium, hydrocarbons, and sulfates.
