If you chance to be passing through Sofia, you will undoubtedly see the Statue of Saint Sofia standing on a column in the midst of a busy crossing. Her golden face gazes out into the Batemberg plaza, which is home to TZUM, the Presidency, and the Government Houses.<\/p>
The 24-meter-high bronze monument was sculpted by local artist George Chapkanov and replaced a statue of Vladimir Ilich Lenin that had previously stood in the same location (the square was also named Lenin at that time).
