There is a vast park around the monument and its surroundings. It is a popular gathering area for young people. The monument is situated on Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard, close to Orlov Most and Sofia University. It depicts a Soviet Army soldier as a liberation warrior, flanked by a Bulgarian mother carrying her infant and a Bulgarian guy. Other, minor sculptural composition components of the memorial complex surrounding the main monument, such as the group of soldiers, have been utilized as a canvas by political artists on several occasions.
