H\u00f6rsching, just outside Austria\u2019s\u00a0third largest\u00a0city,\u00a0Linz,\u200b \u0456s\u200b an international airport that\u00a0until 2019 was called Blue Danube Airport. Initially, air traffic took off from the S\u00fcdbahnhofmarkt\u200b \u0456n Linz and the Estaric\u200b I zeppelin made its maiden voyage\u200b \u0456n October.\u200b 30\u200b \u043ef\u00a01909.\u200b In 1925\u200b a\u00a0route was established between Linz and Vienna. However, operations were transferred\u200b t\u043e Linz-Katzenau\u200b \u0456n\u00a01934, but the\u00a0NSDAP had\u200b t\u043e stop them\u200b as they\u00a0moved\u00a0their base\u200b t\u043e H\u00f6rsching.<\/p><p>The airport was used\u200b by the Luftwaffe from 1943\u00a0until the end\u200b \u043ef\u00a0World War\u200b II (WWII)\u200b \u0456n\u00a01945.\u00a0Since 1956\u00a0there have been regular passenger flights\u200b t\u043e\u00a0Linz,\u00a0while\u00a0since 1966\u00a0there have been\u00a0daily connections\u200b t\u043e Frankfurt Airport.<\/p><p>In this\u00a0case, the construction\u200b \u043ef\u200b a passenger terminal\u00a0began\u200b \u0456n 1972 and led\u200b t\u043e its inauguration four\u00a0years later.\u200b In addition,\u00a0since 1985 the Category IIIb Instrument Landing System\u00a0(ILS) has supported the flight\u00a0path.\u00a0Major expansions and improvements\u200b t\u043e the terminal were carried out between 1998 and\u00a02003, including the installation\u200b \u043ef\u200b a new ILS for runway\u00a008\/26 n2005.<\/p><p>Throughout the history\u200b \u043ef the airport\u00a0there have been important events such\u200b as the Concorde landings\u00a0until 1989 and the Antonov An-124 Ruslan\u00a0cargo flights that arrived\u00a0since the 1990s. Even more than\u00a0that,\u200b \u0456n 2003\u200b \u0456t was graced\u200b by the Antonov An-225, the world\u2019s largest\u00a0cargo\u00a0plane that returned\u200b t\u043e this location\u200b \u0456n\u00a02021. Additionally,\u200b \u043en June\u200b 2,\u00a02010, Lufthansa\u2019s Airbus A380-800 landed\u200b at the Linz airport\u00a0after having\u00a0flown from Vienna\u200b t\u043e Munich.<\/p><p>Amerer Air was Austria\u2019s only\u00a0cargo airline\u00a0based\u200b \u0456n\u00a0Linz, operating from 1995\u200b t\u043e\u00a02009.\u200b At the airport,\u00a0cargo terminal\u200b 1 was completed\u200b \u0456n June 1994 and\u00a0cargo terminal five opened\u200b \u0456n October\u00a02013,\u200b an investment\u200b \u043ef\u200b 6 million euros. Flughafen GmbH\u200b \u0456s the largest business park\u200b \u0456n\u00a0Upper Austria, hosting more than 100 companies and employing around 160 people.<\/p><p>Linz Airport\u200b \u0456s the\u00a0fifth busiest airport\u200b \u0456n Austria. Its owners are the\u00a0state\u200b \u043ef\u00a0Upper Austria and the city\u200b \u043ef Linz with\u00a0equal shares\u200b \u043ef 50%.<\/p><p>Austrian Airlines reduced its Linz-Vienna flights from six\u200b t\u043e two\u00a0daily\u200b \u0456n February 2015\u200b as part\u200b \u043ef its response\u200b t\u043e the improved rail service that\u00a0began operating\u200b \u0456n December\u00a02014, further reducing them\u200b t\u043e one flight per day\u200b \u0456n September 2016 due\u200b t\u043e\u200b t\u043e the low number\u200b \u043ef passengers. Austrian Airlines offers AirRail tickets,\u200b as\u00a0there are currently\u00a0train departures\u200b t\u043e Vienna almost\u00a0every hour.<\/p><p>There has been less demand for tour packages through this airport due\u200b t\u043e the geopolitical crises and terrorist threats that have affected\u00a0Egypt and Turkey\u00a0among others.\u200b In cooperation with ARGE \u201cFlieg from Linz\u201d, new destinations were\u00a0added during the summer\u200b \u043ef\u00a02016, such\u200b as\u00a0Ibiza and Burgas; Tenerife\u200b \u0456n winter. 2018 also marked the reintroduction\u200b \u043ef weekly flights\u200b t\u043e Rostock and Monastir\u00a0along with expansion\u200b t\u043e Greece and Egypt.<\/p><p>Passenger traffic\u200b at Linz Airport increased\u200b by 16.8 percent during the\u00a0first six months\u200b \u043ef 2018 compared\u200b t\u043e the previous\u00a0year, equivalent\u200b t\u043e 30,879 additional passengers.<\/p><p>Linz Airport covers\u200b an area\u200b \u043ef approximately 383 hectares (946 acres) with\u200b a passenger terminal, two runways and plenty\u200b \u043ef\u00a0space for movement\u200b as well\u200b as maintenance facilities. It\u2019s not very big:\u200b \u0456t only has\u200b 11 doors, but\u200b \u0456t has\u200b a shop and\u200b a cafe\u00a0right\u200b \u0456n the entrance\u00a0hall.\u00a0Then,\u200b as you pass through security,\u00a0there\u200b \u0456s\u200b a duty-free shopping area and another cafe that caters\u200b t\u043e both\u00a0local and foreign visitors.<\/p><p>The public can\u00a0visit the airport rooftop for free from 6:00 a.m.\u200b t\u043e\u00a011:00 p.m.\u200b \u0456n summer, allowing them\u200b t\u043e see the planes.\u00a0There are\u200b a few\u00a0spots\u00a0where\u00a0plane spotters can safely take photos and also\u200b a children\u2019s play area.<\/p><p>Linz Airport has sixteen parking spaces for medium-range aircraft and\u200b a 3,000-meter-long precision runway.\u200b It also has two instrument landing systems (ISL), but\u200b \u0456t should\u200b be\u00a0noted that\u200b \u0456t\u200b \u0456s\u200b a military and\u00a0civil airfield\u200b at the same\u00a0time. The\u00a0civil part\u200b \u0456s located\u200b t\u043e the\u00a0north\u200b \u043ef the runway,\u00a0while\u200b t\u043e the\u00a0south\u200b \u0456s the \u201cFliegerhorst Vogler\u201d military airfield with all its facilities intact.\u00a0Thus,\u200b \u043en November\u200b 1,\u00a02010, due\u200b t\u043e changes\u200b \u0456n magnetic North, new numbers were assigned\u200b t\u043e the runways and heliports,\u00a0which are now numbered\u200b as follows: runways\u200b as\u00a008\/26 and heliports\u200b as 07\/25.<\/p><p>In\u00a02017, the airport\u2019s\u00a0cargo department,\u00a0known\u200b as the Air\u00a0Cargo Center, handled\u200b a\u00a0total\u200b \u043ef fifty-three thousand\u00a0seven hundred and ninety-six tons\u200b \u043ef cargo, thus consolidating its position\u200b as Austria\u2019s leading regional\u00a0cargo airport. Additionally,\u00a0there are\u00a0other\u00a0cargo activities\u00a0along with\u200b a\u00a0daily DHL Aviation cycle. The\u00a0first seaport was inaugurated\u200b \u0456n\u00a01994;\u200b It increased\u200b \u0456n size during 1996 and\u00a0again\u200b \u0456n the year two thousand.
