Among the most prominent and historic golf clubs in Austria is Enzesfeld. Situated around 40 kilometers south of Vienna, in the charming village of Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn. Though the club was established in 1970, the Rothschild family owned the land and constructed a private 9-hole course there in the early 1900s. Later, eminent golf architect Commander John Harris extended the course to eighteen holes. Now the Czernin family owns the club, and they have kept its excellent standards and welcoming environment.<\/p>

From the white tees, the course is 6,082 metres long and a difficult and diverse par 72. Narrow fairways, sloping greens, water hazards, and old trees are characteristics. Providing the weather permits, the course is accessible year-round and provides breathtaking views of the Schneeberg mountain and the surrounding landscape. Near Vienna, Austria, Doug Carrick and Hans Erhardt created the renowned Fontana Golf Club in 1996.Several times the Austrian Open has been held on the course, which is a part of an opulent residential complex.<\/p>

Former Magna Europe CEO Sigfried Wolf purchased the course in 2014, and Carrick was brought in to redesign and improve it over a five-year period.All of the tees, greens, and bunkers on the course were rebuilt, and four and a half completely new holes were created. One hole was reversed. The redesign’s goals were to make Fontana more playable and challenging, to regain its standing as one of Austria’s best courses, and to provide room for future residential development on part of the property.<\/p>

Completed in 2020, the new course has a longer championship yardage, better irrigation and drainage, and a more dramatic and natural character. Particularly the last three holes have been greatly improved; the finale is now more risky and rewarding due to changes in elevation and water.<\/p>

Situated only 10 kilometers south of Vienna, Colony Club Gutenhof is the top golf resort in Austria. It has two 18-hole championship courses that are tailored to suit golfers of different abilities. Hans Christian H\u00f6fer founded the club in 1988. Renowned architects painstakingly created the club to mix in perfectly with the surrounding environment. It is housed in the old Gutenhof barony. The 1990 opening of the West course has a difficult design that winds through historic riverbank woodlands; the 1992 addition of the East course provides a more accommodating but no less interesting experience.<\/p>

Famous obstacles on the 6,483-meter West course, which has a par of 73, include the famous second hole, which requires accurate shots over the Kalten Gang river. Comparably, the 6,404-meter, par-73 East course has its own unique set of strategic challenges, like the dogleg ninth hole with its big pond. Both courses are kept in top shape all year round by a committed group headed by head greenkeepers John Jackson and Sean Baxter.<\/p>

Among Europe’s premier golf courses, Colony Club Gutenhof is the home of major events including the Austrian Open and the Austrian Amateur Championship.
