Beautiful Gr\u00f6bming is a hamlet in Styria, Austria’s Liezen region. At the foot of Stoderzinken mountain in the Hohe Tauern National Park, Gr\u00f6bming is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hallstatt-Dachstein\/Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape. Many who enjoy winter sports, the outdoors, culture, and adventure frequent the town.<\/p>

In the northwest part of Upper Styria, Austria, is the commune of Gr\u00f6bming. Kemet Mountains encircle Gr\u00f6bming, which is situated on a little plateau north of the Enns River. It borders Upper Austria to the north. One town and many districts that may be considered separate entities make up the municipality.<\/p>

Gr\u00f6bming is in the heart of Styria, Austria’s second-biggest state. It is a part of Hohe Tauern National Park’s Schladming-Dachstein tourist area. Some 3,000 people live in a 66.94 km2 area. Between 670 and 2,048 meters above sea level is Gr\u00f6bming.<\/p>

The municipality is on the northern edge of the Alps, in the eastern part of the Enns river. Gr\u00f6bming is the border crossing with Upper Austria for the longest river in Styria, the Enns. Gr\u00f6bming’s geography, height, and closeness to the Alps all affect its weather. The municipality experiences warm summers and cold winters typical of a continental climate. Microclimates also arise from regional differences in topography and altitude.<\/p>

Gr\u00f6bming has winter from December to February, when the temperature is on average -0.7\u00b0C. With lows of -5.4 \u00b0C and highs to 2.1 \u00b0C, January is the coldest month. Snowfall is common, especially in higher altitude areas, where the average depth is 28 cm.<\/p>

Population growth has been steady in the municipality of Gr\u00f6bming over the years. Its 3,112 inhabitants as of January 2023 are a significant rise from the 1,104 inhabitants in 1934. According to the 2015 demographics of Gr\u00f6bming, 88.7% of the population was an Austrian national. Additionally present were nationals from other nations (0.2%), former Yugoslavia or Turkey (1.9%), newer EU members (5%), and pre-2004 EU members (4.2%).<\/p>

The bulk of people (70.8%) identified as Roman Catholics in 2001; Lutherans (21.3%), Mohammedans (1.9%), and nonreligious people (2.8%) were next. Two Hungarian residents added even more cultural variety to the community.<\/p>

From 1975 to 2015, Gr\u00f6bming’s population grew consistently by 52.8% and by 18.8% from 2000 to 2015. There has been a little variation in the population figures recently; from 2020 to 2021, they fell by 0.16%. Gr\u00f6bming is a hamlet in Austria located in the Enns river basin. There are fourteen cadastral villages in all, each with a unique past and character. 46 localities are additional divisions of these settlements. Encircling the main municipality of Gr\u00f6bming are the Stoderzinken and Kammspitze peaks, creating a stunning scenery. In the heart of town are a medieval market square, a parish chapel honoring the Assumption of Mary, and a Protestant church. Gr\u00f6bming also has a public library, a miniature golf facility and a recreational area with a Gradieranlage.<\/p>

Another town nearby is Assach, known for its Gothic church of St. Nicholas, typical timber dwellings, and yearly carnival parade. A St. George Baroque church and a St. Florian sanctuary are features of the farming village of Gersdorf. A family-run business that specialized in the manufacture of organic herbs and drinks is also located there: Herb Farm Percht.<\/p>

Gr\u00f6bming-Zentrum is the administrative and business center of Gr\u00f6bming, housing the town hall, tourist office, post office, police station, and main shopping centers. In the oldest recorded document, which goes back to 1139, the town is called “Grebin.” From the Slovenian word “greben,” which meaning ridge or hill, comes the name “Grebin.” The historical account changed dramatically in 1680 when the plague destroyed Styria and had a big impact on Gr\u00f6bming. There were a good number of empty houses since owners either died of disease or fled. Not being able to find suitable interment, the remains were allowed to rot in the cemetery. During this turbulent time, church services were moved to a chapel on Kulmleiten hill; a Marian column in the old town stands as a lasting reminder of the pandemic.<\/p>

In the 19th century, Gr\u00f6bming saw a major turning point when manorial power was abolished in 1848\u20131849. The town had before unrecognized market advantages. With a concentration on those from the Rhineland, Gr\u00f6bming gave 3,000 refugees shelter and food during the turmoil of World War II.<\/p>
