Popular for skiers, environmentalists, and culture vultures, Murau is a little town in Austria’s Styria. Among the several attractions and sites the town presents for exploration are the Holzmuseum, a special museum displaying the art, history, and culture of wood. With slopes and paths ranging in complexity, the Hofealpe ski resort and hiking area presents breathtaking views of the valley and neighboring Alps. Castle Obermurau is a castle complex on the Schlossberg hill in Murau.It is in Upper Styria in Austria.<\/p>

About 1232 Ulrich von Liechtenstein, well known as the Minnesinger, established the first fortress atop the Murauer Schlossberg.The fortress was devastated in the 1276\u20131278 conflict between the House of Habsburg and the Bohemian King Pemysl Otakar II.Then Ulrich’s son Otto von Liechtenstein renovated it.<\/p>

Christoph von Liechtenstein married Anna Neumann von Wasserleonburg (November 25, 1535 \u2013 December 18, 1623; her second marriage; she bought the estate from her husband’s siblings and lived half a century as mistress in the old Liechtenstein castle in Murau). Following his death in 1580, his widow came to own Murau. Among Murau’s most influential people is She is acknowledged as Two children of the “Neumannin” had died before her and were childless, so she herself had no descendants. She married her sixth husband, the then 31-year-old Imperial Count Georg Ludwig zu Schwarzenberg, in 1617, at the age of 81, most likely in the sense of an adoption with regard for future inheritance.Count Georg Ludwig had the previous castle destroyed following the death of his wife in 1623 and erected Renaissance fortress around an arcaded courtyard between 1628 and 1643.<\/p>

Since Emperor Leopold I crowned them imperial princes in 1670, the Schwarzenbergs have possessed Obermurau Castle.<\/p>

The Roman Catholic parish church of Murau is situated in Styria’s Murau municipality and area.Part of Murau’s deanery in the diocese of Graz-Seckau, St. Matthew’s parish church<\/p>

Freiherr Otto I von Liechtenstein financed the church, which his son Otto II kept under maintenance and dedicated in 1296 by the Bishop of Lavant.The church rose to the status of parish church in 1333.Chapels built at the two angles between the east bay of the side aisles and the transepts in 16401947\u20131948 were years of healing.The outside underwent renovation between 1971 and 1972.<\/p>

Situated midway on the southern slope of the castle, the church is enclosed by an ancient cemetery wall.<\/p>

Built from yellow tuff in a continuous march from west to east, the magnificent early Gothic pillar basilica with a crossing tower and transepts was created.Three aisles and four bays define the basilical nave; its tall central nave features clerestory windows and pointed arches.Pointed arch bridges on squat octagonal pillars link the open central nave to the side aisles.The nave vaulting is groined with belt ribs separating the bays on differently formed corbels.Paintings and stucco cover the chapel additions on the two east bays of the side aisles.<\/p>

Two-step higher crossing is highlighted by robust belt arches with an applied curved rib and crossing pillars with three-quarter circular services.On either side of the transept sits a yoke.With a hand of blessing in the crossing, the Liechtenstein coat of arms in the north arm, and a flower rosette in the south arm, ribbed vaults with round keystones grace the crossing and transept.The transept opens to the north and south with a high and narrow lancet window.A 1469 spiral staircase formed from an octagon links the northern transept.One also finds a Gothic frieze band.Under the northern transept sits the Liechtenstein crypt.<\/p>

Comprising the spiritual center of the AB Murau-Lungau Evangelical Parish, under the AB Styria Evangelical Superintendent, is the Elisabeth de Murau Evangelical Church. Together with the official Styrian area of \u200b\u200bMurau, the parish comprises Lungau of Salzburg.<\/p>

First mentioned in a record in 1329, the hospital church of Santa Isabel – which is on the city side of the market bridge – was rebuilt in the 17th century. the Accountant. -Reformation and Protestant expulsion in 1599. Professedly evil, Emperor Joseph II auctioned it off in 1789. Installed in 1923, a wooden floor served as a gymnasium until 1975 and then as a table tennis hall until 1977.<\/p>

Emperor Joseph II’s patent of tolerance of 1781 allowed evangelical Christians who were forced to practice secret Protestantism in hiding to reestablish so-called communities of tolerance. Until it reached the Judenburg parish in 1918, which had been rebuilt that year and evolved into a preaching station in 1966, Murau was under the care of many churches. Murau began as a subsidiary municipality of Judenburg in 1985.<\/p>

Since 1920, Murau has had a prayer chamber available. After more than 200 years, the Elisabeth Church was opened as a respectful place of worship in 1979. Partially, the church was converted into an evangelical diocesan museum.<\/p>

The Protestant community paid symbolic costs for Karel Schwarzenberg’s Elisabeth Church in 2002.<\/p>

The former three-bay Baroque hall was built between 1628 and 1644. Of the former church, the east tower and sacristy, as well as the tall, narrow pointed-arch windows on the south wall help to maintain the Gothic features. stucco panels with beaded moldings and egg lattices attributed to Giuseppe Pazarino around 1640. The northeast corner tower sports a baroque dome and arched sound openings.<\/p>

Benevolent under the nave is a lower church with Platzl vaulting in waist arches.<\/p>

On a forested slope next to Gr\u00fcnfels Castle, on the outskirts of Murau, the modest Leonhardikirche stands.It is on the site of the medieval castle chapel of St. Catherine and most certainly constructed shortly after the St. Anne’s Church as it is already mentioned as a pilgrimage church in 1439.<\/p>

Net vaulting lets the long, light-filled chancel span the high hall.Rich tracery lines the big windows, and keystones and corbels are intricately decorated.Completing the high altar, pulpit, and right side altar in 1640 was Anna Neumann’s coats of arms, five of her husbands’, and the imperial princes of Schwarzenberg appear on the parapet of the music gallery.A defensive wall surrounds the whole church area; it connects to the west by a stairway leading to the completed Holy Sepulcher Chapel in 1680.Between 1994 and 1995, the stone fa\u00e7ade of the church was renovated tastefully.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On a wooded slope next to Gr\u00fcnfels Castle, on the outskirts of Murau, stands the modest Leonhardikirche. It stands on the site of the medieval chapel of Sainte-Catherine’s Castle and was almost certainly built shortly after Sainte-Anne’s Church, as has already been mentioned. as a pilgrimage church in 1439.<\/p>

The net vaults allow the long choir bathed in light to extend over the upper room. Rich tracery lines the large windows, and the keystones and corbels are finely decorated. In 1640, the coat of arms of Anna Neumann completed the high altar, the pulpit and the right side altar. five of her husbands and the imperial princes of Schwarzenberg appear on the parapet of the music gallery. A defensive wall surrounds the entire church area; it is connected to the west by a staircase leading to the Chapel of the Holy Sepulcher completed in 1680.
