The History of Walentowski Galerien<\/h3>

Former banker Peter Walentowski transformed his love of art into a profitable company, hence launching the Walentowski Galerien. Beginning with paintings by German expressionists including Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and Max Beckmann, he then added pieces by other giants of contemporary art including Marc Chagall, Joan Mir\u00f3, Salvador Dal\u00ed, and Henri Matisse. He also became quite interested in pop art, particularly in the works of Andy Warhol\u2014whose he personally saw in New York in 1986. Along with other pop art superstars such Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselmann, and Mel Ramos, he obtained several original prints and paintings by Warhol.<\/p>

Walentowski started his first gallery in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1978 and quickly became among the top art dealers in that nation. Along with Switzerland, Austria, and Spain, he opened more galleries in other German towns including Berlin, D\u00fcsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich. In addition, he acquired a devoted following of collectors, celebrities, and institutions and took part in many art fairs and shows both domestically and abroad.
