Kultur im Gugg

Kultur im Gugg is a contemporary art and cultural institution situated in the town of Braunau am Inn in Upper Austria.

The Kulturhaus im Gugg, situated in the center of Braunau, was previously a fire extinguisher factory owned by the Gugg family, specifically Rupert Gugg & Sons. However, the building underwent renovations in 1989, followed by reconstruction in 2001, and further expansion in 2005. These efforts aimed to transform it into a vibrant cultural center that serves the community of Braunau. The center receives subsidies from the European Union, as well as from the state of Upper Austria and the municipality of Braunau am Inn.

We offer a wide variety of program offerings that cover a range of contemporary cultural experiences. These include cabaret shows, concerts featuring swing, blues, and funk music, and in-house theater productions. In addition to featuring national and international artists, including Austrian premieres like Kiki & Herb, Leo Bassi, and Annie Sprinkle, our program also focuses on in-house productivity. This means that we prioritize creating our own productions, with one in-house production being showcased each year.

Each season, an average of 8,000 individuals attend each of the 40 events.

The Braunau Contemporary History Days are an annual event that will take place on the last weekend of September at the Gugg venue.
