The Hundertwasserhaus (“Hundertwasser house”) is an apartment building in Vienna, Austria, erected in 1985 and named for Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
This expressionist landmark in Vienna is located on the corner of Kegelgasse and Löwengasse (Kegel/Löwen street) in the Landstraße neighborhood. The Hundertwasserhaus is a popular tourist attraction in Vienna and has been designated as part of Austria’s cultural heritage.
The house is colorful and distinctive, with uneven floors in the halls and rich landscaping.Around 250 trees and plants were planted in 1985 and have now grown into towering trees – a true park on the house’s rooftops. The home deviates from the conventions of architecture.Antoni Gaud, Ferdinand Cheval’s Palais idéal, the Watts Towers, the anonymous architecture of the allotments, and the fairy tale books are among Hundertwasser’s role models.
The structure has 52 apartments and four stores, as well as 16 individual and three community roof terraces. The global media attention to the construction was immense. The Hundertwasser House is one of the most photographed tourist attractions in Vienna.
