Heidi Horten Collection

A new museum hotspot in Vienna: Heidi Goss-Horten’s outstanding art collection has been open to the public since 2022. Special exhibitions in this rebuilt inner-city palace explore various subjects from the collection.

Since June 2022, Vienna’s excellent offering as a city of art has another great museum for you to explore. The Heidi Horten Collection, located in the center of Vienna, welcomes you to discover one of Europe’s most prestigious private collections. To accommodate it, the Stöcklgebäude, a city center palace located between the Vienna State Opera, Albertina, and Burggarten, was magnificently refurbished and made into a modern museum temple.

Heidi Goss-Horten (1941-2022), an Austrian millionaire and art supporter, amassed a remarkable collection of several hundred paintings beginning in the early 1990s. It represents a cross-section of art history from classical Modernism to the present. Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, and many more are included in the collection. A condensed best-of of world art history.

The museum displays the collection in all of its parts. Regular special exhibitions explore topics inherent in the collection. On an area of almost 1,500 m2, selected sets of works are shown on three major levels and in four smaller cabinets.Contemporary artists are also frequently engaged. There are unique options for children and teenagers, such as a creative workshop.
