Grete-Jost Park

The Grete-Jost-Park is a public park located in the third district of Vienna, specifically in Landstrasse. The aforementioned location can be found situated at the rear of the Austrian Post’s headquarters, known as “Post am Rochus,” positioned between Erdbergstraße and Rasumofskygasse. The park was closed until 2017 as a result of the construction of the new post office. The total area measures 1,500 square meters.

The park has been designated with the name of Grete Jost (1916-1943), an Austrian resistance fighter who opposed National Socialism. The individual resided in the third district and was subjected to capital punishment in Vienna during the course of World War II.The designation occurred on October 10, 1997 during the Municipal Council Committee for Culture.

The Grete-Jost-Park underwent a redesign during the subway construction project in the 1990s.Cordula Loidl-Reisch, a garden architect from Vienna, served as the garden planner.

During the demolition of the adjacent post office in 2015, archaeological discoveries were made in the park’s soil, including late Celtic and early Roman artifacts. These findings are presently regarded as the oldest Roman discoveries in Vienna.
