DC Towers

DC Towers (also known as Donau City Towers) is a development project in Vienna’s Donaustadt district. Dominique Perrault, a French architect, designed the towers.

DC Tower 1, Austria’s highest building at 220 meters (250 meters with the antenna spire), was formally completed on February 26, 2014, with an inauguration ceremony attended by architect Dominique Perrault and retired astronaut Buzz Aldrin.Groundbreaking was repeatedly postponed due to the global financial crisis of 2007. Construction finally began on June 17, 2010.

According to the owner Wiener Entwicklungsgesellschaft für dem Donauraum, tenants have been confirmed for 50% of the floor space as of June 2012. The majority of the available floor area will be dedicated to offices.One of the main tenants has been revealed as Baxter International. The top levels will contain flats, while the first 15 stories will house a four-star hotel run by the Sol Meliá Group of Spain. One of the top levels will also house a restaurant.

The five-star Meliá Vienna of the Spanish Sol Meliá Group has been positioned on the lowest 15 floors since the beginning of 2014, with 253 rooms and 1,079 m2 of event space.The restaurants on the 57th and 58th levels are also part of the hotel.A 1,700 m2 health facility with a wellness room and an indoor pool is also located on the second level.The majority of the remaining floors are leased as office space.Back in 2011, Baxter was named as the first significant tenant.The Austrian unit of Astellas Pharma moved into the skyscraper in early 2015.Among the other office tenants are voestalpine, PwC Austria, the IBM Client Innovation Center Austria, and CRRC ZELC, a subsidiary of the Chinese rail car manufacturer CRRC, which has established its European headquarters here.Level 58 offers a 207-meter-high wraparound patio.The portion facing the city center is controlled by the bar located here, while the remainder was available as a paid viewing platform (sky terrace) until the end of 2016.The ORS has also been broadcasting television shows utilizing the 245 meter antenna since October 2014.

DC Tower 2 will be 180 meters tall, making it Vienna’s fourth highest structure. It will accommodate offices, retail stores, and rental apartments.
